WHO wants your input on its draft TPPs for needed antibacterial agents

Dear All,

WHO has developed a set of draft TPPs (target product profiles) for needed new antibiotics. As part of the process, they are now opening a public consultation. Here is the essential text from their announcement:

  • “The World Health organization (WHO) is developing target products profiles (TPPs) for needed antibacterial agents, providing the public health perspective to funders and developers on the performance and operational characteristics desired of new therapeutic products.
  • “The draft TPPs for are now out for public consultation, during which we seek feedback from a broad range of stakeholders. Direct link to the consultation: https://www.who.int/medicines/access/antimicrobial_resistance/public-consultation-tpps-antibacterial-agents/en/
  • “Deadline for feedback is 29 September 2019. A comment form is available on the website. Please use one form per draft TPP and submit comments to Ingrid Smith (ismith@who.int). The finalized TPPs will be published towards the end of the year.”

As noted, the TPPs are meant to guide funders and developers as they evaluate program options. The TPPs cover these 5 areas:

  • Empiric therapy of neonatal sepsis in high resistance settings
  • Targeted therapy for MDR Gram-negative neonatal sepsis
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea
  • Uncomplicated typhoid fever
  • Oral therapy of uncomplicated UTI

Please take a look! All best wishes, –jr
